🍃Bungonia Slot Canyon and Boulders Adventure🍃

Join Hikeandseek on a day hiking down to the Slot Canyon at Bungonia (via Red Track) , followed by a prolonged session of boulder hopping, climbing and even crawling as you traverse your way through the spectacular gorge. Immerse yourself in the spectacular sounds of echo down in the gorge and spot the elusive lyrebird as it scurries through the gorge - often only leaving its mimicking call behind in its wake. Not a hike recommended for the less of heart - if the descent and boulder hopping doesn’t get your blood pumping.. then the 500m ascent back out surely will!

TRAVELLING TO BUNGONIA

Bungonia National Park is approximately 2.5 hours from Sydney and a meeting location will be confirmed with participants. There is no public transport available to the area.

FITNESS REQUIRED:
A sound (high level) level of fitness is required for this hike as a 500m ascent is involved with tough inclines and scrambles over large boulders in many instances. There are many instances where there is a lack of trail or obvious waypoint. Although not the most longest walk, there is a moderate degree of technical ability required for the day.
* This hike is not well suited for first time hikers or beginners and requires participants to be self-sufficient and able to look after their own safety at all times. Please enquire further about suitability for this walk. *

BUNGONIA SLOT CANYON

Bungonia National Park has unique geology and is highly mineralized. The rocks found in the National Park are of vast difference to many of the surrounding National Parks. The many hundreds of caves and canyons found in Bungonia are of limestone nature and rise up in sheer fashion created by karstification. The Bungonia Slot Gorge is particularly indicative of the volcanic and sedimentary activity of the area. The sheer vastness of the gorge will be realized once stepping foot within. The ideal adventure for those who wish to immerse in nature, enjoy a challenge and a little more beyond just the day-to-day hike.

· Sun Protection

· Food and snacks for the day including lunch (Resting time will be given to have meals and snacks, alternatively this can also be purchased at Lithgow before meeting)

· Small Backpack

· Sturdy Hiking Shoes, Sturdy enclosed outdoor shoes recommended

· Minimum 2 Litres of Water

· Camera (Phone)

· Optional Hiking Poles and Gaiters

· Please let at least one other person know of your rough whereabouts for the trip.

· Light warm jacket – for those more prone to cold
